| About Lissa Designs |
Lissa is the fifth generation of jewelers. In fact, Lissas great great grandfather began his jewelry career as a very young boy. He collected fresh water pearls along the banks of the Mississippi River and sold them. As he and two of his brothers grew up he began buying pearls from clammers who needed money to support their drinking habits! These three brothers opened Howes Brothers Jewelery Store in Clinton, Iowa in 1870. Due to the lure of the west and his wifes asmatic condition, Lissas great great grandfather moved to Los Angeles. Along with his son, the first BD Howes and Son jewelry store was opened in the Brack Shops in Los Angeles. They rapidly gained a great reputation for their pearls and other gems.
Interestingly, Walt Disney modeled his jewelry store on Disneylands Main Street after the jewelry store in Clinton, Iowa. Also a point of interest, there is an exhibit of the Howes fresh water pearls in the collection of the Gemology exhibit at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D. C. Lissa started her business by creating new designs for her family and friends. She now designs, makes and shows her jewelry all over the United States. She has had small shows in New York, Washington D.C., Vail, Colorado, Park City, Utah, as well as up and down the California coast. Just as her family before her, Lissa brings to the jewelry industry the forefront in jewelry design. All her jewelry is quality in content as well as design and craftsmanship. She works only with 14 k gold, sterling silver and semi-precious stones. Her designs range from the classic and traditional to the more contemporary popular lines seen in many of the high end fashion magazines. It is with the inspiration of many generations before her and a vision for jewelry today that Lissa enthusiastically presents to you Lissa Designs! |
