I didn’t start out as a designer. In the early 2000’s I was working as a temp, and one of my assignments landed me at Metro Brokers in Denver as a receptionist. I answered the phones, managed the daily office, scheduled showings for agents, and called homeowners to let them know someone was coming. It wasn’t glamorous — but it put me right in the middle of how real estate actually works.

What I didn’t expect was how much I’d enjoy it. I was talking to agents from all over the Denver Metro area every day — watching how they worked, how they communicated with clients, what made some of them stand out and others blend in. That firsthand experience stayed with me.

From there I took on more and more roles across Colorado and Nevada — cold calling, contract coordination, marketing, Agent Services Coordinator, Marketing Manager, Office Manager. I learned the industry from the inside out. And somewhere along the way, one of my real estate clients needed a full rebrand: website, copy, signage, marketing materials, all of it. That project changed everything. I realised the thing I was best at — and most drawn to — was making agents look as good on paper as they were in person.

That’s what Lissa Designs is built on. Not a design degree with a real estate niche bolted on — but 15+ years of working inside this industry, understanding how agents think, what they need, and what actually moves the needle on their business.

A brokerage needed everything rebuilt from scratch. That project — social media, copy, signage, listing materials, presentations, and so much more — was the moment it clicked. Making agents look as good on paper as they were in person was the work I was meant to do.
