Developing a Brand Identity: Windsor Tea
Creating a brand identity can be a daunting task. There are so many factors to consider, from the logo and color palette to the overall aesthetic of the brand. We will be creating a brand identity for Windsor Tea.
In this project, I developed graphics and colors for a fictional brand. First, I created the logo and color palette for the company. Then, I created a final package design that incorporated the logo and color palette. The goal of this project was to create a cohesive brand identity that could be used across multiple media. To do this, I first researched the Windsor Tea’s target audience and competitors. Then, I created several concept boards that explored different color schemes, fonts, and overall aesthetics. After narrowing down the options, I created the final logo and color palette. Finally, I applied these to the package design, making sure to create a cohesive and unified look. This project was a great opportunity to explore branding and learn how to create a professional and appealing brand identity.
Creative Brief for Windsor Tea
A creative brief is an important step in the brand identity process because it helps to focus and guide the design process. It provides a clear overview of the target audience, Competitors, and the desired aesthetic for the brand. This information can then be used to create graphics and colors that are aligned with the brand’s vision. A well-executed brand identity can help a company to stand out from its Competitors and appeal to its target audience. This project was a great opportunity to explore branding and learn how to create a professional and appealing brand identity.
For this brand identity the client wanted a logo design that would incorporate their brand color along with an identity package and prototype for the packaging.
To better understand the Windsor Tea brand, we need to answer seven key questions.
- Who are you?
- What do you provide and what make you unique in that field?
- Why does it matter?
- Who is your target audience?
- Who are your competitors?
- What message do you want to communicate?
- What are ten words that reflect your brand?
When creating a brand identity, it is important to develop a word list. This list will help to define the tone and voice of the brand. The words on this list should be carefully chosen and accurately represent the company’s values and vision. They should also be used consistently throughout all branding materials, from the logo to the website design. A well-chosen word list can help to create a strong and unified brand identity.
I wanted to create a simple yet effective design that captured the brand’s personality. I came up with this word association using possible fonts based off of the ten words from the initial creative brief. This graphic makes it easy to visualize the ten different styles in one document!

The target audience for the fictitious Windsor Tea brand are adults ages 35-65, who are looking to add some classic tea drinking into their modern lives.
Windsor Tea Competitors
When designing a brand identity, it is important to research your competitors. This will help to understand the competitive landscape and what design elements and messaging are most successful. It can also help to find areas where your company can stand out from the competition. By understanding your competitors, you can create a brand identity that is truly unique and resonates with your target audience.
The brand’s competitors are other tea companies that offer classic blends of tea. Some of Windsor Tea’s competitors include Twinings, Lipton, and Bigelow.
Display Font Options
Display fonts will help to create a visual style that is consistent and memorable. It is important to choose fonts that are appropriate for the target audience and the message you want to communicate. By choosing the right fonts, you can create an effective and appealing brand identity.

Sketching out your ideas is an important part of the design process. It can help you to visualize your ideas and get feedback from others. By sketching out your ideas, you can also experiment with different design elements and find the right combination that works best for your brand identity.
This brand has a royal feel to it. My next step was to create sketches that incorporated natural elements like leaves, mountains, and tea fields. I also had ideas that incorporated the Windsor Castle. I also sketched out ideas that related to tea such as tea cup, spoon, teapot, and tea bags. The sketching process helps you put all of your ideas down on paper before you start working digitally.
The client was presented with all of the options that I came up with and picked their favorite elements. The next step is creating that design in digital form and offering different styles/layouts for them to see.
Logo Design Idea Process
Designing a logo is an important part of creating a brand identity. By designing your logo in black and white, you can focus on the shapes and lines that make up the logo. This will help you to create a more effective and polished logo.
After you have designed your logo elements in digital form, you can start to experiment with different layout options. Try out a few different versions of your logo and see which ones appeal to you and your target audience.
For this client, they wanted to use the crown. I worked through the process of adding the crown with different shapes and styles along with options for the font style of the brand name.
Final Logo: Black and White
After getting feedback from the client, we finalized the design and created a consistent visual style for the brand. The brand wanted to use the crown with a more simple design. This brand wanted to use a thinner oval design to represent a vine with tea leaves. The brand also chose to use a serif font for the monogram inside the oval with the brand name in a sans-serif font below the icon. Once I narrowed it down, I started to create a consistent style for the brand identity.

The client wanted us to use a color palette that was inspired by nature. We chose a range of greens, purple, and gold to reflect the company’s values of comfort, stability, royalty, sustainability and environmental responsibility. This helped to create a unique and memorable visual style for the brand.
Final Logo: Color
Once you have created a black and white illustration of your logo, you can start to experiment with color. By adding color, you can create a more vibrant and eye-catching logo. However, it is important to use colors that are appropriate for your brand. You want to avoid using colors that are too bright or overwhelming.
For the color logo, I used purple and gold to reflect royalty. I also used their brand color for the jewel elements within the crown and for the brand name, monogram, vine, and leaves I also added a gradient to the leaves to add some contrast to the design.
Identity Package Mockup
An identity package mockup is an important part to creating a strong and effective brand identity. It can help to solidify the look and feel of the brand and make it more memorable for the target audience.
The package should include all of the elements that make up the branding, such as the logo, color palette, typography, and photography. By including all of these elements, you can create a consistent and cohesive look for the brand.
For this brand, I created an identity package that included the logo, color palette, typography, and other elements. Included are a business card design, envelope design, and letterhead design. This helped to create a strong and effective brand identity for the company.

For this brand, I chose different types of packaging, including a variety of different shaped tins, boxes, and bags. This helped me to narrow down the type of packaging that I wanted for the brand.
Sketching out packaging designs is important for brainstorming ideas. By sketching out different designs, you can get a better idea of what works well and what doesn’t. You can also experiment with different ideas and see what looks the best.

For this brand, I sketched out a variety of different packaging elements. I experimented with different shapes, sizes, and materials. I added notes about the different tea flavors and possible cutout elements. This helped me to get a better idea of what would work well for the brand.
Once I had an idea of what elements I wanted to include in the design I skethed out a simple packaging idea. After I had an outline of the packaging, I could then add the various elements to the design. I wanted to add the history of the company on one panel, how to use the product on another panel, the ingredients and nutrition label and an illustration of flowers that I wanted to be on every tea flavor packaging. I also sketched out ideas for where I wanted to have the upc label and other elements related to the tea.
Final Packaging Design
After you have brainstormed ideas and sketched out designs, you can start to finalize your packaging design. This is where you will choose the materials, colors, and overall look of the packaging. You want to make sure that the packaging reflects the brand and its values.
For this brand, I chose a black box and white box with the green brand color for the base of the box and the illustration line color. I also chose to use a different color that fits with the tea flavor for the top of the box. I chose yellow for chamomile, blue for afternoon tea, and gray for the earl grey tea flavor. Adding an illustrated floral design that matches the top flaps of the box to the corner of each panel creates consistency between the flavors. These illustrations would be consistent across each of the different flavor package designs. This helped to create a luxurious and elegant look for the Windsor Tea brand.
